Nouveau Théâtre Expérimental (NTE), Montreal
The Nouveau Théâtre Expérimental was founded in 1979 by Robert Claing, Robert Gravel, Anne-Marie Provencher and Jean-Pierre Ronfard.
NTE became a major player on Quebec's theatrical scene as a creative theatre, a space for unusual experiences, a congenial theatre, and a voice for promoting new artists.
Alexis Martin became co-director in 1999, followed by Daniel Brière in 2003. Their mandate is not only to develop a theatre for creative research, but to do so in an atypical manner by continually striving to push the limits of convention and established methods in order to return to the essence of theatrical creation.
NTE is a unique space for invention and freedom, a model and inspiration for a good number of creative artists.
